ANCHORED HERE: Jamie Banfield
We first discovered the Interior design firm, Jamie Banfield Design when they reached out to us last Christmas asking to promote our clothing as Jamie’s favorite for an upcoming press release. After a quick google search, we were impressed to see the accolades that this 30-something-year-old has been recognized with, such as the One to Watch and designer of the year by Western Living Magazine. Not to mention, his presence at Canada’s leading home and design shows, features in local newspapers, magazines, and television programs.
As an award-winning interior designer recognized for his West Coast style, it’s no surprise that Jamie Banfield chose Port Moody as his home base. Jamie, born in the UK and raised in Pitt Meadows, says he can’t get enough of the surrounding mountains, trees, and water. With an office right on Brewer’s Row across from Rocky Point, he has a prime view of British Columbia’s landscapes to find plenty inspiration from while he establishes himself as a creative force in the industry.
This year, Jamie launched THE BANFIELD, a line of high-end mill work inspired by his Port Moody surroundings. Jamie’s work can be seen in private residences throughout Western Canada.
We met up with this local celebrity to find out what anchors him to Port Moody.
1. How do you contribute to the social development of Port Moody?
“We continue to support a few charities that we hold close to our hearts. I'm an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver and we're also strong supporters of Crossroads and KidSport. We're always looking for ways to help in Port Moody.”
2. What values should we stand for as a community?
“We believe that company culture should mirror the values and culture of the local community. We believe in equal opportunity, supporting local business and helping when you can. We think these values are a recipe for success and we feel like we have found a home here.”
3. Describe the most authentic moment you’ve witnessed during your time here.
“We work closely with Innovative Fitness in Port Moody, and most recently, participated in the IF Adventure challenge, which raised over $118K for KidSport. Seeing the community both in Port Moody and the IF family come together to raise money was a very authentic moment for me and just reinforced the importance of being involved in the local community.”
4. What kind of legacy do you intend on leaving behind?
“This is a pretty big question, but my favourite quote by Shannon L. Alder best describes the legacy I want to leave behind:
Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.”
5. What ultimately anchors you here?
“There is a deep sense of community in Port Moody and it's the main reason why we moved her and the reason why we are staying. We love the lifestyle and it perfectly slots in and fits with the culture I have created within my company.”
